Effect of pilot fuel properties on lean dual-fuel combustion and emission characteristics in a heavy-duty engine

In a dual-fuel (DF) combustion process, the ignition of main fuel plays crucial role on engine performance and emissions. present work, pilot is used to ignite gaseous methane-air mixture. Three diesel-like fuels are comparing especially cetane number (CN) aromatic content (AC). The experiments conducted in single-cylinder heavy-duty research keeping total-fuel energy constant. Lean conditions applied for port-fuel injected mixture (?CH4 = 0.52). methane provides 97% total while 3% comes from fuel. performed two pilot-fuel injection pressures speeds. results work suggest that DF consists three overlapping stages: (I) fuel, (II) burning vicinity (III) remaining It was observed directly affects peak heat-release rate (HRRpeak) during Stage I, whereas influences HRRpeak Stages II III. A with high efficiency, low slip, THC CO emissions at expense NOx An increase responsible increased Based average trends fuels, they can be rated as [high CN, AC] > [Low [High AC free].
